A Complete Guide to LED Bulbs
Reasons for Choosing LED Bulbs over Halogen or Incandescent Bulbs
One of the primary reasons why many people prefer LED light bulbs is because of their energy-saving capabilities. Compared to halogen bulbs, LED bulbs use 90% less energy. LED bulbs also have a longer lifespan. So, all these factors considered, LED bulbs mean lower wattage, longer life, and less energy. For all your LED lighting requirements, LED Authority is just what you need.
Electricity is measured in watts, while light is measured in Lumens. LED bulbs are highly efficient in electric conversion as a typical LED bulb emits approximately 80-100 lumens per watt. This is in sharp contrast to an incandescent bulb with only 40-50 lumens per watt.
An LED bulb has a lifespan 20 to 25 times greater than an average halogen bulb and 10 to 20 times longer than a typical incandescent bulb. Interestingly, depending on the quality, some LED bulbs can last up to 50,000 hours! That translates to nearly 12 years if the bulb is used for 12 hours daily.
Explaining LED Bulb Colors
LED Color Temperature
LED color doesn't imply natural colors such as green, blue, or red. It means color temperature, which is the color of the light that the LED emits. Note that it has absolutely no connection with the heat from the bulb, but rather the color of the glow generated by the bulb. Standard colors include natural white, warm white, and cool white.
LED color temperature is measured in Degrees Kelvin (K), and they range from 1900K to 6500K. The lower the K rating, the warmer the glow color. For instance, a bulb with a high rating of over 6000K will emit a cool light with a white/blue glow. A bulb with a low Kelvin rating of around 3,500K will produce a warmer orange/yellow glow.
LED Brightness
The brightness of LED bulbs is measured in Lumens. If you need bright bulbs, the Lumen value will have to be high. In traditional halogen lights, the wattage indicated the brightness of the bulb because it measured power consumption. This meant that the higher the power consumption, the brighter the bulb was.
Due to the energy-saving capability of LED bulbs, you cannot measure the light output from the wattage. It doesn’t correlate with brightness.
